Conclusion and evaluation
The experiment that we make in groups of 4 to understand better the differences between soil, helped me a lot to learn and understand what the difference betweendifferent types of soil (specifically soil, sand and clay) which are its composition and why they react as that. It proved that their reaction is not the same and that the variation of particles that aremore compact or more separated affects a lot to it. We could see how if we try to make water pass through sand, soil and clay, the time changes. In my opinion I believe, that If we kept on waitinguntil everything soil dried we could’ve spend days, that’s why we decided to make this in a different way. We calculated the different times for the three, each one almost until the last drop of waterfell down into the plastic bottle and saw the difference on water.
The amount of water varied, when it had drain. Some types of soil have more capacity of absorbsion more water than others, whichlet more water pass through. For example clay absorbs a lot more water than sand, and soil also. Sand was the least one that absorbed the water. This is because its particles are more compact than theothers, which are separated, such as sand.
Starting our experiment with 100mls in each bottle and looking on the results after a different certain time of water for each one, we can see how clayabsorbed 73mls, soil 36mls and sand just 30mls. These results are that different because their particles aren’t placed in a same way and the composition of each one was different... Some of them aremore compact (clay’s for example) and this doesn’t let too much water to go through, but others like sand have separated particles so water passes through faster.
