The US health care system is the most expensive in the world, yet, due to the absence of communication between doctor- patient and the almost nonexistentavailability of technology and information create a barrier that prevent most people from completely utilizing the health care system. Average Americans don’t get the necessary information from theirdoctors and or medical provider as a consequence preventive care programs go unused. Available information is usually localized to some cities due to the differences in the availability of new technologylike computers and the internet. For example the in the City of Palo alto California residents have an average of two computers per household while in the city of East Palo alto 90 % of allresident’s don’t have access to a computer. Doctors don’t emphasize the importance of preventive care programs nor do they provide any information about preventive care to their patients. patients usually getstuck with doctors that are not concerned with their health or well being but are more concerned on fixing what is wrong in that moment.
One of the many barriers that interferes with making avisit to the doctor a positive experience is the lack of interest of some doctors to communicate with their patients. “communication is a transactional process involving participant who occupy different,but overlapping environments and create relationships trough the exchange of messages.” (1) effective communication between doctor and patient requires a number of abilities including the doctor useof psychology and curiosity and genuine interest for their patients. It plays a key role on how the patient feels about sharing personal information with their doctor. Effective communication canfree the patient from fear and preconceived ideas that could otherwise interfere with a successful diagnosis and or treatment.
