RESUMEN
Una red HFC es una red de cable que combina en su estructura el uso de la fibra óptica y el cable coaxial.
Como se puede ver hoy en día es una realidad que los nuevos desarrollos tecnológicos en comunicaciones y sus aplicaciones están disponibles para ser utilizadas en beneficio de las personas y el desarrollo integral de un país.
Una de estas aplicaciones es el servicio detelefonía y transmisión de datos utilizando la infraestructura que se encuentra actualmente implementada para las redes de televisión por cable (CATV) o redes HFC (Red Híbrida Fibra-Coaxial) como son las de TV CABLE en nuestro país, las cuales están impulsadas por la necesidad de transmitir volúmenes más grandes de información.
Debido al interés de integrar voz y datos, mayor interoperabilidad, ellogro de soluciones efectivas y la expansión del mercado es que las compañías actuales tienden a la integración de estos servicios.
La tendencia actual nos lleva a considerar a las redes híbridas (HFC) son las redes que en un futuro cada vez más próximo harán llegar hasta los hogares de la mayoría de poblaciones de grande y mediano tamaño una amplia variedad de servicios y aplicaciones detelecomunicaciones como son los de vídeo bajo demanda (VOD), pago por visión (PPV), vídeo juegos interactivos, videoconferencia, telecompra, acceso a bases de datos. Pero en la actualidad los que se han convertido en la principal prioridad son los de acceso a Internet a alta velocidad.
