The first article that I have chosen, to compare the ideologies of the two great parties of USA, discusses about the homosexual marriage. This is one of the most controversial issues of the parties’platforms and separates the ideologies of both parties radically. This article expose a Barack Obama´s interview in which hesays by first time that he is in favor of gay marriage. This statement was immediately answered by his opponent, Mitt Romney, who said that he is in opposite of Gay marriage.I think that this opposition defines very well the characteristicsof both parties, the democrats show a modern and popular view of America and the Republicans have a conventional view of the marriage and the society.In my opinion the way in which Obama deals with the issue in the interview, is a very good example of the imagethat the Democrats want to show, they want to show Obama like a person who is really concerned with the problems of the common people , to accomplish this, he gives examples of his personal life , forexample:
“He said he had changed his views after seeing gay members of his own staff (…) who felt constrained by not being able to wed.”
"There have been times where Michelle and I have been sittingaround the dinner table and... Malia and Sasha (…)”
On the other hand, Mitt Romney gives us a traditional view of the marriage based on the traditional values. To rebut Obama's view, Republicanswant to highlight the religious character of marriage and, in its platform; it is defined like a “Sacred Contract between a man and a woman”.
