Like any good teacher knows, not all students learn in the same way. It is also common for a class of students to be in a variety of levels in any particular subject. Teachers needto use different teaching methods to reach all students effectively. The first step in choosing a teaching method is to evaluate students. This assessment can be formal or informal.Formal assessments include standardized tests, tests of the textbook or curriculum used, or teacher to create tests. These assessments can provide insight into the educational background students havereceived, and their academic level. The students in your class may have undergone various teaching methods and the quality of education in previous years.
Informal instruction is, as its name suggests,much less formal. Good teachers know their students. If you have been teaching a group of pupils for some time, you probably already know enough about your interests, skill levels and learningstyles. If the student group is new to you, you can make a point to ask them, individually or in groups, their interests and academic strengths.
