1. Describe two of the most important issues the debaters talked about:

-EDUCATION: The team debates about how black people aren't allowed inwhite colleges, "The time for justice is today". Most of the team's debates are about racial discrimination in the United States. Tolson seems to believe that people need to stop being ignorant so thatthey can demand for justice and stand up for their rights. He teaches this to his students by putting them in the "hot spot" and asking them questions. At the beginning of the movie, most of thestudents didn't know what to say and couldn't answer most of Tolson's questions. As the movie progresses, we can see how gaining knowledge and reading helped them to have better arguments for their debates.-MORALITY: In the final debate, the contestants talk about what is morally right or wrong. They talk about this because some laws keep black people from having the same opportunities as whitepeople. The Harvard students mentioned that following the rules and laws of their country was "morally right". The team from Wiley College said that "an unjust law is no law at all". They debate about howeven though the government says that they have to obey the laws, it is not always morally right to follow them.

2. Give 2 examples of racism you saw:
-Black people are not allowed to debate atwhite colleges.
-One of the kids is not willing to participate with the teacher's team because he believes that he is a communist.

3. Give a complete characterization of 2 main charactersincluding their conflict (inner or outer) and solution:

-Tolson: He is a member of a secret society that was often linked to Communism. He is against racial discrimination and is willing to stand up forblack people's rights no matter what. Tolson is the leader of the Wiley College debate team, which begins to catch the eye of many schools and colleges around the country. He has very strong beliefs,...
