Renaissance art & Middle Ages art

Renaissance art is more lifelike than in the art of the Middle Ages. Their paintingsseem to have depth. Leonardo da Vinci (born in 1452) paints in the Renaissance style. In the Renaissance, we see the first oil painting on canvas. (the middle ages painted intempera). It was also a time where the paintings took on three dimensions by the use of shadow and light. The subject matter included mythical subjects and nature scenes. Artists triedto show differences in proportions (meaning size and location of one thing compared to another in the painting) of their subject matter.

Renaissance is best known for itsart as this was the age of geniuses as Leonardo da Vinci, Petrarch, Dante, and Michelangelo.

A very prominent difference between the Renaissance and Middle Ages is that ofthe art. The Renaissance artists followed the more classical form of art. They portrayed human beauty and the religion predominantly. The Renaissance artists had a deep sense ofperspective and developed two dimensional effects. Michelangelo’s David is a good example of Renaissance art. The Middle Ages portrayed Gothic art. The Gothic style of architectureis characterized by pointed arches and ribbed vaults. This form of portrayal incorporated fine woodwork and stonework. The Gothic art used flying buttresses and ornamentalgables. A good example of the medieval age is the Notre Dame Cathedral located in Paris.
