Introduction
In the next pages Iam going to explain about the history of scanners, digital cameras and a little bit about digital video cameras.
This is a very interesting them, because those things are used by us very often,but almost none of us know the beginning of them.
It won’t talk much about the brands, is just about how the old devices worked and when it was built first time.
THE HISTORY OF THE SCANNER
Ascanner is a device that uses optical technology to capture a document or a picture. It converts that information into electronics codes so the computed can read them.
Scanners are widely usedtoday and both commercial and domestic things. We use it to create digital copies of a document or photo that we need so we can edit them.
Nowadays there are many brands and types of scanners, andlike I said, we use them very often, but we don’t know the beginning of them… So now let’s see the history of that famous device…
The first scanner was built in 1957. And the first photograph to bescanned was a picture of Walden Kirsch, a three month old baby. It was captured by the National Bureau of Standards (Now the National Institute of Standards and Technology or NIST). The picture wascreated by Russell Kirsch (the baby’s father) using a drum scanner. The image had a resolution of 176 pixels.
The first scanners were drum copiers, capturing information with photomultiplier tubes.Items to be scanned are mounted on a cylinder which rotates, the drum, and this is passed in front of the optical equipment which captures the image.
Drum scanners are still used, as they enableof very high quality images, they are often used in film works, but they are very expensive.
In the 1990’s someone invented the hand-held scanner. This was drawn across the page by the user and...
