Coping with Procrastination

In the essay “Coping with Procrastination,” Moore, Baker, and Packer (1997) talk about time management focusing on procrastination. There, they explain themeaning of the word “procrastination” along with possible factors that can lead to it and the ways in which one can tackle those as well. I want to discuss here mainly two aspects they bring up. Those are, being a perfectionist and what they call “burnout.”
The first thing I want to point out is perfectionism. Moore, Baker, and Packer (1997) talk about the fear of future consequences in doing apoor job. This unfounded fear gets in the way of starting the task. They also talk about high expectations and setting unrealistic standards. I think this is correct because in my experience forexample, looking at the blank page (before starting a written work) can take a long time. In sum, beit in order to want to achieve something “good enough” or being overwhelmed by something complex, procrastination always causes you to loose time. Therefore, it is important to stress on thesematters exposed by Moore, Baker, and Packer in order to help people see the ways in which they can overcome procrastination. As a result, they will most probably do better and have less physical and...
